With friends like these.
Harry Reid was in the spotlight recently for comments revealed in Game Change a book about the ’08 presidential campaign. Specifically, these comments, “He (Reid) was wowed by Obama’s oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama — a ‘light-skinned’ African American with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”
Thing is, as bad as some people may react to Reid’s comments (and ironically enough Spike Lee devoted an entire film to the same topic – School Daze) the comment jumping out at me was this little jewel: “Clinton told the Democratic lawmaker that just a few years ago, Obama would have been serving the pair coffee.” Bill Clinton attempting to persuade Edward Kennedy to endorse Hillary.
Nobody seems at all upset the former president, revered by his supporters, thinks a Harvard graduate and constitutional law professor in Chicago (during Clinton’s years in office) would have been suited to being Clinton’s butler – serving them coffee?!!? Really Bill?
